Models for chemical evolution of galaxies aim to account for their compositions in terms of the production of elements by stars and the mixing of stellar ejecta with interstellar gas. By using a star formation rate and adopting distribution of stellar masses as stars are born (initial mass function) along with our existing knowledge of stellar evolution and nucleosynthesis, we can study the chemical enrichment of galaxies numerically.
